Review: Equilibrium
Post Christmas movie schedules always get a little wonky. Everyone is running marathons, and you will inevitable see a whack combination of films on Spike, SyFy, AMC—films that you would normally never see on network television. Hence, Equilibrium.
I’ve seen Equilibrium several times and it remains, in my opinion, very watchable. For those of you unfamiliar with this film, think...

Movie Review: The Keep (1983; dir Michael Mann)
Yes, yes, I know: The Keep is a cult classic. It is visually stunning. It has a great throbbing soundtrack by Tangerine Green. It has a good group of actors (Gabriel Byrne, Jurgen Procnow, Ian McKellen). Michael Mann is a brilliant artist.
And The Keep still sucks.
Lowdown: A Nazi contingent is assigned to hold a pass in Romania. They secure an ancient keep festooned with nickel crosses...

Sort of Review: The Human Centipede: First...
There is no point in really reviewing this film. Paraphrasing Roger Ebert, you take a film like this or you leave. I took, and I must say that I learned a few things. Here are six lessons from Tom Six’s The Human Centipede: First Sequence:
1. If you’re a young American woman, don’t go to Europe. You’re going to be chopped up and die in the worst ass-to-mouth joke in...

Review: The Pledge (2001)
(Obsessed much, Jack?)
The Pledge is an ultra serious movie about obsession, featuring fine performances by Jack Nicholson and Robin Wright-Penn. It is perhaps Sean Penn’s best directorial effort in an uneven career as a helmsmen. But The Pledge is also a movie that gets worse the longer it goes.
In the beginning of The Pledge, retiring Reno detective Jerry Black just wants to hit the...

From this Movie Sucks Ass Files: The Seeker: The...
This movie sucks so much ass I’m not even bothering with a photo. I remember reading The Dark is Rising in elementary school. It was not a very pleasant experience because the teacher insisted on reading the book aloud in class. Why did teachers ever think that was a good idea? Or did they think it was just classroom filler. If so, then shame on them. I could have been learning fun...
Catherine Hardwicke is in some demand . . .
She has Red Riding Hood coming out, and she will then be doing Freeheld, Hamlet, and the newly announced The Maze Runner.
Let me get this straight: she gets fired from Twilight and couldn’t be a hotter property now. Fired from the Twilight series. That’s like getting pink-slipped from Wendy’s then getting three investors to bankroll your restaurant called Cream Cheese and...

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY?
Can this movie be any more pointless than the movie version of The Mod Squad? Are people hankering to watch Channing Tatum or Jonah Hill making out with jailbait high school drug pushing skanks before setting them straight?
I don’t want to know the answer...
